Sodium bentonite composite waterproof blanket (GCL) is a new geosynthetic. It is a kind of blanket waterproof coiled material which is composed of graded natural sodium bentonite particles and corresponding admixtures, and fixed between geotextile and plastic woven fabric by needling technology and equipment. Bentonite waterproof blanket not only has all the characteristics of geotechnical materials, but also has excellent waterproof (seepage) performance.
The waterproof mechanism is as follows: the sodium based particle bentonite selected for the bentonite waterproof blanket can expand more than 24 times when encountering water, so as to form a uniform colloidal system with high viscosity and low filtration. Under the restriction of two layers of geotextiles, the bentonite will change from disorderly to orderly expansion. Construction precautions
1. Since the self weight of bentonite waterproof blanket material is large, it should be handled and laid by shovel conveyor.
2. The connection of bentonite waterproof blanket material adopts lap joint.
3. When the bentonite waterproof blanket is laid on a slope greater than 10%, the number of laps along the slope length shall be minimized. The bentonite cushion on the slope must be more than 1500mm above the slope toe line. D. We will lay the bentonite waterproof blanket in strict accordance with the laying design drawing submitted to the supervising engineer, unless required by the owner or the supervising engineer.
4. Any equipment used for laying bentonite waterproof blanket shall not be driven on the paved geosynthetics. When installing the bentonite waterproof blanket, the outdoor air temperature shall not be lower than 0 ºC or higher than 40 ºC.
5. The edges of all exposed bentonite waterproof blankets must be immediately compressed with sandbags or other heavy objects to prevent the bentonite waterproof blanket from being blown by the wind or pulled out of the surrounding anchoring ditch. The bentonite waterproof blanket cannot be unfolded in windy weather to prevent it from being blown up.
6. The laying method of the bentonite waterproof blanket must ensure that the bentonite waterproof blanket is in direct contact with the foundation below, so as to eliminate wrinkles. Any folding, folding or arching may cause the same situation of other geotechnical materials in the soil layer. In order to avoid folding, folding and arching, we will eliminate these problems by replaying or cutting and repairing the bentonite waterproof blanket according to the requirements of the technical specification.
7. The equipment of bentonite waterproof blanket must be approved by the supervising engineer before use. It is not allowed to use unprotected razor or "quick knife". The construction equipment that may damage the bentonite blanket cannot directly act on the bentonite blanket. The feasible laying method is to push the soil backward and spread the bentonite blanket in front of the bulldozer before hoisting. If the soil machine leaves a vehicle mark on the foundation soil, it shall be restored to the original state before the laying work continues.
8. When laying the bentonite blanket, the dragging of the bentonite blanket on the foundation shall be minimized to avoid damage to the contact surface between the bentonite blanket and the ground. If necessary, a layer of temporary geotextile can be placed on the ground to reduce the damage caused by friction during the laying process of bentonite blanket.
9. The laying and lapping of bentonite blanket shall be parallel to the inclined direction of the slope. If the slope is more than 4:1, there shall be no transverse lapping of bentonite blanket within 1 m from the slope top or slope. The lapping method of bentonite waterproof blanket is to overlap the ends of two pieces of bentonite blanket. It is necessary to prevent soft soil or gravel from entering the overlapping area.

Compactness
Sodium bentonite forms high density diaphragm under the condition of water pressure. When its thickness is about 3 mm, its water permeability is below 10 × 11m / sec, which is equivalent to the compactness of 100 times of 30 cm thick clay. It has a strong self water retention performance.
Permanent waterproof performance
Because Na bentonite is a kind of natural inorganic material, even after a long time or the surrounding environment changes, it will not age or corrode, so the water-proof performance is lasting.
Simple construction and short construction period
Compared with other waterproof materials, the construction is relatively simple and does not need heating and pasting. Only bentonite powder and nails, washers, etc. shall be used for connection and fixation. No special inspection is required after construction, and it is easy to repair if waterproof defects are found. GCL is the shortest construction period of existing waterproof materials.
Not affected by temperature
It will not break in cold weather.

Integration of waterproof materials and objects: when the sodium bentonite meets water, it has 20-28 times expansion capacity. Even if the concrete structure vibrates and settles, the bentonite in GCL can repair the cracks on the concrete surface within 2mm.
